Burnline is looking for solarpunk fiction and visual art rooted in character, ecological imagination, collective possibility, and the complicated work of building a more livable world.

We care more about the work than a polished pitch. The details below explain what Burnline is seeking, what files to send, and what contributors can expect.
Fiction
We are interested in solarpunk across a wide range of tones and settings: urban or rural, intimate or expansive, near-future or far beyond it. Above all, we care about character. Give us people who want something, risk something, and make us feel the stakes of the world they are trying to inhabit or change.
Futures with texture
Show us how communities live, organize, repair, distribute, grow, travel, care, or come into conflict.
Hope that has been earned
The world can remain difficult. We are drawn to stories that still leave room for agency and change.
- Word limit
- 500–10,000 words.
- Pay rate
- Because Burnline is currently a free magazine without advertising, we cannot offer payment at this time. Our goal is to eventually pay a competitive per-word rate, but we are not there yet. We understand if that makes submission a non-starter for you.
- How to submit
- Email your story as a .doc, .docx, or .pdf to contact@burnlinemag.com. Include the word “Submission” in the subject line.
Human-created work only
No AI-generated or AI-assisted work will be accepted. Burnline is interested in fiction created by people.
Simultaneous submissions are welcome
Please submit elsewhere while you wait. Just let us know promptly if another publication accepts the story.
Visual art
We are accepting solarpunk-themed visual art for digital publication. Digital, hand-drawn, painted, collage, and mixed-media work are welcome. Photography is not currently being considered.
Places that feel inhabited
We welcome landscapes, interiors, infrastructure, neighborhoods, and everyday scenes shaped by ecological futures.
Life within the future
Portraits, communities, rituals, labor, play, repair, and the relationships that make a world feel alive.
Organic and unexpected
We are open to work that is bright, quiet, strange, imperfect, highly rendered, graphic, or experimental.
- Artwork specs
- Cover art should be portrait-oriented at 8.5 × 11 inches (2550 × 3300 px) and 300 dpi. Please have a PNG or high-quality JPG available if selected. Interior artwork may use any dimensions.
- Pay rate
- Because Burnline is currently a free magazine without advertising, we cannot offer payment at this time. Our goal is to eventually pay a competitive rate, but we are not there yet. We understand if that makes submission a non-starter for you.
- How to submit
- Email contact@burnlinemag.com with a link to the artwork wherever it is hosted, such as a portfolio or public post. Include the word “Submission” in the subject line.
- Credit
- Selected artists will be fully credited in the magazine and on the site using the name, portfolio link, and profile or social handles they would like included.
Human-created work only

Send a link first
Please do not attach large artwork files to the initial email. A portfolio or hosted-image link is enough for review.
Cover letters
Keep it simple. The work comes first.
Emails and cover letters are much less important to Burnline than the fiction or artwork itself. If part of your personal story meaningfully informs the work, we would be glad to hear about it. Otherwise, a brief hello and the essential submission information are enough.
